Episode 91 - VS. the Pod of Magneto!

Welcome back kids! Are you having fun? Is the season of the year when you are listening to this giving you weather to your liking? Is the upcoming/recently occurred holiday going to be a good time? How about that sports team that just did a thing?!?
We have another banger of an ep for ya! First up Bizarre Adventures #27. Where we read the first and last stories, but skip Iceman, because, why wouldn't you? Jean Grey and Nightcrawler feature, and we get to see some great Dave Cockrum show what his lines can really do in this black and white magazine!
Next up is X-Men #150, and boy is it something! This issue has everything! Storm about to cut a bitch, Cyclops deputy leadering his way into another lassie's' pants, Banshee getting angry that I stole his word for women, and Magneto on a Cthulhu terror island wiping out an X-Man! All this and Carol Danvers too! Listen in, won't you?

Episode 90 - Podfessor X is Dead!

Did you know that dogs fart almost 20 times a day? And cats? Once or twice. So that smell in your bedroom? NOT THE CAT!!! So stop blaming them! 
Welcome home sweet students of X, we missed you. We really did. But, we shall forgive your wanderings and even reward you with a pair of X-Issues that will make your return all the more sweet!
First up, we have Uncanny X-Men 148. Storm, Stevie, and Spider-Woman take Kitty to a strip club, because what else do you do with a pre-teen on a Sunday after church, am I right? Okay, maybe it's a Saturday. And maybe it's actually a Dazzler concert. Also Angel has a shit fit because he thinks Wolverine is a psycho. AND, Scott manages to swim a good distance without being able to see, and visits his old pal Magneto in hos spiffy new eldritch horror retirement home!
Next up is X-Men 149. Magneto uses his powers to neutralize Scott's optic blasts, because magnetism! And the rest of the team pay a visit to our old pal Gary, better known to you X-Fans as Garrok! What sort of crazy hijinks has our old pal Gary been up to since the last time we stopped by to say hi? You will have to listen in to find out!

Episode 89 - Now Strikes the Pod-Human!

Welcome in Blue Retrievers, we hope you brought your imago-spheres! Because today we want to take you on a special trip! No, not to the back room at Mr. Horton's bicycle shop, but to a world where Jean Grey did not die!
First up in What If 27, we talk about just that. Although technically Jean Grey does die, and then the Phoenix wears her meat sack around and CONTINUES TO COMMIT HORRIBLE ACTS OF TERROR!!! And she gets more time with Scott, so win-win!
Next up is X-Men 147! We are back at Doom's castle! Storm is a robot, Arcade is annoying, and Angel has to poop on newspaper from a bar high in the air! All this, plus Professor X begins to hatch his next evil scheme! It doesn't say that explicitly, but at this point we should all just assume, right?

Episode 88 - The Pod of the Monster!

Man, I don't know about you, but when the summer months hit, all I want to do is sit around in my underpants and read comics. Unfortunately, my HR manager and I had to have a talk after that happened. So now I am on a "Written Warning". I tried to tell them I could not read, but the comics gave me away! Uptight co-workers!
Anyway, we have a pair of bangers for ya, as we first dive into Spider Woman #38. And this one is a literal banger, as Colossus bangs a big hole in a ship, and then our old pal Juggernaut bangs another hole to go after the man of metal. All that, and the police are sexist to Spider-Woman. Was anyone surprised by that? Anyone at all? All right then let's move on.
Next up we have X-Men 146, and we once again enter the least murderiest of worlds, Murderworld! Watch as no one dies! Gasp in horror as no one endures even the slightest of injuries! Look away as everyone escapes completely unharmed! You WILL NOT LEAVE THIS PLACE ANY DIFFERENT!!! Doom is here too! Join us for the recap kids!

Episode 87 - The End of the Pod... Or the X-Men?!?

All right Blue Retrievers, this one is going to be quick and dirty. We decided to play to Roger's strengths!
First up we have what may be the darkest issue of the X-Men to date, as we start with X-Men 144. This one has lots of trigger warnings about terminal illness, as well as decisions one make in times of desperation. Please be warned that this issue contains a good deal of mature subject matter, so make sure you check this one out before letting the kids read it. And maybe have a discussion once it's all done!
Next up we swing to the other end of the spectrum with X-Men 145! Arcade is kidnapped by Doom, and no one cares. Well, one person cares, but she goes about asking for assistance in a really shitty way, and manages to pis everyone off. She clearly lost her copy of "ow to Win Friends and Influence People"! Who am I talking about? Why Is Doom making a move for Storm? And why do we have to deal with Arcade again? You will have to listen in to find out!

Episode 86 - The Sinister Shadow of... Podsday!!!

It's the 5th of July. The bald eagles have been shot at with fireworks, giving them babies to shoot fireworks at next year. At least that is my understanding of how the 'Murican traditions work. Hopefully everyone has all their fingers and toes on this the spookiest day of summer, the 5th of JULY!!!
But not all is covered in gunpower and cheap beer, our X-Men are covered in spider webs and demon goo! So clearly they are much better off!
First up we head to the X-mansion, where Katherine Pryde has been left to her own devices in Uncanny 143. She and a demon that Scott left alive (way to go, deputy leader!) play a really weird game of tag, and break some stuff. She then tries her hand at making it the turkey donner for the X-Team by cooking it in a fairly unique way, and no, it's not the deep fat fried turkey that put a hole in your uncle's roof last year!
Next up we take a gander at Spider-Woman 37, where the Marvel community get to have an intervention with Black Tom about his decades of questionable hair product choices. We don't know where he buys his pomade, but all bets are the grey stuff under Juggernauts toenails! Plus, this is also the debut of another Mighty Marvel Mutant, so hooray for the population boom!

Episode 85 - The Pod on Trial for Treason!

First up we have X-Men 142, where The Days of Future Past story concludes. This story has been told a thousand times since, but this is the first, and dare I say, best?!?
Next up is Dazzler number one! Shall we say a palette cleanser from the darkens of those Future Days of the Past? I think we shall. Spider-Man, Enchantress, the X-Men, and Beast all guest star in the book! And it's only 22 pages, so you know a lot of stuff is going down!

Episode 84 - Podkano Lives!

First up we have Marvel Team Up 100, where the phrase "Quality is Our Only Compromise" originated. BUT, it is also the first appearance of the mutant who will become known as Karma, so we at least got that. 
And in a complete 180 from that comic, we jump right in to X-Men 141, the penultimate chapter of Days of Future Past. If we need to tell you much about this book, man you are in for a roller coaster of emotion. Death, disaster, and time travel, what more could you ask for? Let's get at them books!

Episode 83 - A-Pod Came a Spider!

Welcome back Book Clubbers! And welcome in anyone who is new to the show! We hope you have enjoyed the journey so far, and are looking forward to the things to come. We have a dynamite duo of digests for you this week, so let's jump in!
First up, X-Men 139! Wolverine decides to cut the Canadian Government off at the pass and head up there before they come after him for the seventeenth time in five issues. He and Nightcrawler take off for the great white north and meet some old pals along the way. Not many people can claim to have man eating mythological beasts on their Boxing Day card list, but not everyone is Wolverine. He is the best he is at what he does, remember? 
Next we dig our grubby little paws into X-Men 140! Now with more fiber! If you have ever wondered how you bridge two of the biggest stories in comic book history it's quite simple, go to Canada! That way tou can gran some Tim Horton's and poutine and enjoy the fisticuffs between Alpha Flight and everyone's favorite horror show, the Wendigo! Man, those Canadians are a hot mess when it comes to cannibalism, aren't they? Anyway, enjoy!

Episode 82 - Pod--In a World of Darkness!

Once again Blue Retrievers, we dive into all things X! In fact we have a double dose once again! So let's get right to it!
First up we have X-Men 138, the book that answers the question, "What if the X-Men were a 70's sitcom, but everyone was sad?" I bet you didn't know anyone ever asked that question did you? Well Messiers Claremont and Byrne did, and now they're pushing it on us! Oh, and Cyclops quits the team. 
Next is X-Men Annual 4, where the team goes to hell! Or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof. Nightcrawler's mom and old lady get up to some wacky 80s style shenanigans, and they manage to confuse Doctor Strange. Not as confused as when Danny Rand stuck his finger in a strangers' potato salad, but pretty close! Also, we find out some oddly held beliefs by Roger about Canadian women. All this and Wolverine hugs a snake, so listen in!
